[mysyndicaat]

xxhttp://www.mysyndicaat.com

summary of the application

on its webpage, my syndicaat says it is "a web-based software solution aimed at supporting news professionals in their daily tasks of content collection, filtering, monitoring and content delivery." while it's a professional tool, they explain that they will provide it free to individuals and non-commercial organizations. mysyndicaat is a souped up rss/adam aggregator. you create 'bots' which are organized however you find helpful (topic, time period, people, etc.). once aggregated, the feeds in a bot can be filtered by tags, categories, author, and/or any text string found in the posts. another feature is the ability to combine similar tags into one tag. for example, blog, blogs, blogging and weblog can all be merged under blogs. the end product is an aggregated listing of the filtered posts in reverse chronological order. you listing can then be exported out to opml. it is free for personal and non-profit use. commercial entities are charged a fee based on usage.

personal effectiveness xxx

i've liked this tool from the day i found it. it allows very fine control of a large amount of information. not only can i create a feed that doesn't include blogs i don't care to read, it has enabled me to create a bot that pulls just a few pertinent posts from each of numerous blogs. i like the tag merging mechanism and that mysydicaat picks up the author's name for every post.

the bot building process is a bit more complex than it needs to be. but otherwise, i like mysyndicaat for those of us who need the most efficient means of dealing with news and knowledge as it comes at us.

learning effectiveness xxx

mysyndicaat could have some benefit to anyone needing to monitor or research opinion and current thought in specific areas. it would also be relatively easy to create a suggested readings list or a resource list for a project team.

coolness xxx

this application has few very cool attributes, but mostly it is a plain jane interface that does some pretty remarkable stuff. Also being able to filter down to the level it does in an rss/atom aggregator is great.
